Education Today vs. Puritan Education
In today’s society there are many more different social classes, with different morals, than there were in Colonial (Puritan) New England in the 17th century. In Puritan education manners and morals were extremely important, because you needed to show that you were chosen from God to go to heaven and it was to determine the rest of your life. In today’s societies morals are still taught in school and by parents, but there are more chances and it is easier to fit in, and/or be accepted even if you misbehaved. In school today the focus is turned more towards the subjects and away from teaching what is morally right and it is mostly left to the student to decide what they believe is right. The only time it would be addressed by the school would be it there was an obvious issue. It is certainly not the center of education anymore, as it seems to have been in Puritan education.
